About

Hi, I’m Deborah Sims and I work from my garden studio just outside Lyme Regis.

A little about my pots:

My work is rooted in an appreciation of contrasts - especially the meeting point between the strong and the delicate.

To that aim, many of my pieces are hand-pierced — a slow, meditative process whereby every hole is carefully worked over multiple times - and they often function as ambient lighting so that the soft glow they emit through the pierced patterns can serve as a gentle counterpoint to the robust presence of the clay.

Much of my inspiration comes from time spent outdoors walking with my dog. I’m always picking up natural objects along the way — stones, shells, seed pods, seaweed, bits of bark — turning them over in my hands, drawn to their organic shapes, texture, and quiet complexity.

I hope that my ceramics invite you to do the same: to hold them in your gaze, to enjoy their form and to be moved by the simple interplay of strength, fragility, light, shadow and surface.
